When Van Dyke United Methodist Church first opened in 1984, the reason for starting it was as much geographical as anything else. It was a typical neighborhood church, put there to serve Methodists who wanted a church closer to home and for those who lived in the community who may be looking for a church.

As a word, purpose is on the verge of become cliché.
